Facial Esthetics

Our mission at 508-Dentist is to provide our patients with the care and treatment that results in a happy, healthy and beautiful smile. That smile is the focal point of your face. Offering services that complement the smile and enhance our patient’s natural beauty across the entirety of their face is the reason we now offer a variety of facial esthetics services.

Non-surgical facial esthetics are a series of procedures and treatments administered by a medical professional that reduce the signs of aging and promote a more youthful, well-rested appearance. The services we offer help minimize complaint areas such as folds and sagging skin, wrinkles and crow’s feet, forehead and eyebrow lines, and even those dreaded laugh lines or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds or marionette lines) that form around the sides of the mouth – all areas that can detract from a beautiful smile.

The options we offer are non-surgical techniques performed in our offices that do not permanently augment a patient’s facial structure, and are administered under the guidelines and training of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE). In most cases, the results last anywhere from a few months to a year depending on the treatment and patient response.

We currently provide three facial esthetic functions. These include: Dermal Fillers, BOTOX® Cosmetic and KYBELLA®.

Dermal Fillers

As we age our skin naturally loses subcutaneous fat, causing the muscles underneath to become closer to the surface. Simultaneously, the skin then stretches and thins out. As those muscles work, underneath a thinned layer of skin, we see the results of that movement more clearly in the form of wrinkles and facial lines.

Dermal fillers are a substance that is injected underneath the skin’s surface to restore lost volume and hydration. Most fillers are comprised of either collagen or hyaluronic acid, which are both compounds naturally found in the body. Collagen is a fibrous protein that makes up 75% of the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a type of polysaccharide found in the deep layers of the skin called the dermis, and is responsible for helping the skin retain water and stay hydrated. As both of these compounds naturally diminish with age, the typical signs of aging then increase. Hence, we see wrinkles and sagging skin. Replacing these lost compounds counteracts the aging process and results in a more youthful look.

In addition to shrinking the lines and wrinkles in the face, dermal fillers can also be used to plump the lips — restoring lost fullness and correcting an uneven appearance. As the lips are the permanent frame for our smile, we use these fillers to create symmetry, reduce lip lines and creases, and add volume and shape.

The key benefit to all of these fillers is that the patient maintains their normal facial movements and expressions after treatment. To date, we offer a number of different dermal filler options for our patients, depending on their individual needs and the areas they are looking to address. These include:

  • Juvéderm®: The #1 selling hyaluronic acid (HA) filler in the U.S., primarily used to contour cheeks, plump lips and smooth lines.
  • Restylane®: Another hyaluronic acid filler option, designed to help correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.
  • Belotero Balance®: A smooth, flexible gel that gently fills in lines and blends into the natural structure of the skin.
  • Sculptra®: This filler helps stimulate the body to produce its own natural collagen within the skin.
  • Radiesse®: A gel microsphere solution that once injected, immediately adds volume. It then stimulates collagen production that over time replaces the gel as it is absorbed by the body.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

Most people are familiar with the BOTOX® Cosmetic brand. As the #1 doctor-administered cosmetic procedure for years, BOTOX® has been used by millions of patients to transform their facial expressions, smoothing and reducing frown lines between the eyebrows (the “11s”), horizontal forehead wrinkles, or lip creases.

BOTOX® targets the repeated muscle contractions underneath the surface layers of the skin, and temporarily reduces this muscle activity. As those muscles no longer contract, or do so less severely, the skin wrinkling effect of the movement is minimized.

BOTOX® Cosmetic contains tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein refined from the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum. It is safe, effective, and approved for us in 78 countries around the world.

Similar to BOTOX®, Xeomin® is a botulinum toxin used to treat frown lines by reducing the muscle activity beneath the surface of the skin. However, Xeomin® is the first botulinum toxin product that does not require refrigeration before use, making it’s easier to distribute. It also contains no additives.

Botulinum products are safe and effective, but should not be interchanged.

Submental fat, also knows as the “double chin”, is the collection of fat cells underneath the chin. It can be caused by weight gain, genetics, or simply as part of the aging process. KYBELLA® is an injectable prescription medication that shrinks and eliminates those fat cells, reducing the fullness and improving a patient’s profile with a more defined jaw line.

The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

The Procedures

All of the facial esthetic treatment options listed above are performed in our office by our AAFE-trained medical practitioners. During your consultation before the procedure, please make sure to advise us of all medical issues, including current illnesses, recent or planned surgeries, all medications (including over-the-counter drugs like NSAIDS and aspirins), and any allergies.

Each procedure will vary slightly based on the products selected and the number of areas to be treated. However, most patients can expect a fairly similar experience, one that can typically be completed in the same time it takes to get a teeth cleaning.

The facial areas selected for treatment will be cleaned and prepped, and may be slightly numbed with topical or injectable local anesthetic. The medications are then injected with a fine needle into the skin. The number of injections will vary based on the extent of the treatment. Some results will be immediate, others may take a few days to be realized completely. And in a few cases, multiple treatments may be required to obtain the desired results.

During and after the injections, patients may experience some mild discomfort. Redness, swelling and even minor bruising may occur, but usually subside quickly. Once the procedure is finished, you may return to normal everyday activities. There is no down time required.

These safe and simple procedures are giving our patients a refreshed and younger-looking appearance.
